 The Business Case for Greener Buildings has Never Been Stronger.

Market interest in greening new and existing buildings is at an all-time high. Many pre-conditions are contributing to this trend: the objective of improving operating cost efficiencies of buildings, landlord differentiation in a competitive leasing market, and supportive government policies are just a few of the prevailing factors.
Coupled with these market forces is the significant growth in Corporate Social Responsibility mandates among investors, tenants and organizations in general. Corporate North America continues to move in the same direction as Europe and Australia.
In the past 11 years, over 1000 buildings have been LEED® certified in Canada and more than 4000 have registered – the second highest number in any country in the world. Since its launch in 2005, BOMA BESt has seen tremendous uptake, with over 3,500 buildings representing nearly one billion square feet of Canadian commercial real estate, having applied for certification or recertification to date. Why?
The 9th annual Green Real Estate Conference will provide a high level discussion on the economics, feasibility, benefits, and value of upgrading existing properties or developing new properties as green or high performance buildings. The facts will be presented to support the evidence that greener buildings command higher rents and asset value, enhance occupant health and well-being, improve employee productivity, attract tenants more quickly and reduce tenant turnover, and cost less to operate and maintain.
